Description:     Nodexus Inc. is a Berkeley-born Angel-, SBIR-, and Venture-backed startup that is developing an integrated platform that consists of a hardware device and single-use, disposable microfluidic cartridges to detect, characterize, and isolate single cells of interest from complex heterogeneous samples. Nodexus is affiliated with QB3, the FAST program of the California Life Sciences Institute, and Berkeley Skydeck, the premier accelerator at U.C. Berkeley.

We are seeking a seasoned engineer who will excel in the exciting, multidisciplinary environment of an early-stage biomedical device company. This position will be responsible for hardware and systems design, pneumatic and electronics interconnect design, supply chain sourcing, and liaising with Nodexus’ Senior R&D team to validate the hardware/cartridge system.

Position Requirements and Skills

• M.S or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering/ Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or other multidisciplinary engineering fields with exposure to biological applications., with 4+ years post-M.S. or 2+ years post-Ph.D. industry experience preferred, respectively
• Extensive experience with mechanical design, build, validation, and documentation; expert familiarity with 3D solid modeling and GD&T; experience with industrial design
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise with Nodexus R&D and external partners
• In addition to deep technical skills, successful candidates demonstrate strong organizational and documentation skills, take ownership of key hardware development, and thrive in a dynamic start-up environment
• Expert proficiency in use of machining instruments including CNCs and 3D printers, mechanical engineering design tools such as Solidworks/FreeCAD, experience with product release and documentation for ISO standards

• Able to work 5+ days/week (as needed) in the Bay Area, CA; immediate start date preferred but negotiable
