Intro: Electronic Based Hardware Product Development for Non-Hardware Engineers

Developing a modern piece of software is in itself a very complex process that requires a wide range of skills to conceive the product and develop it. A hardware-based product is a much more complex project, usually involving a much wider range of skills required to complete the task. Most Project Managers who develop software have little understanding of the diverse set of skills required to develop a complex hardware product. Other engineers, such as Mechanical or Chemical Engineers or even Marketing persons, simply can’t conceive of the complexity of such projects.

This video will discuss the overall, general development of a hardware product, starting from an idea for the very simplest ones to more complex ones utilizing a microcomputer, to far more complex ones that use a microcomputer (perhaps several of them) along with a simple and easy to use user interface by a person with very little, if any, technical skill.

Who does this presentation address?

  • Software Engineers with a desire to develop a hardware-based product in the future
  • Engineers outside of the electronic hardware engineering discipline who have a desire to develop a hardware-based product
  • Marketing persons with hardware-based product ideas but lack an understanding of designing a hardware product.
  • Managers that have no experience in hardware product development, and wish to gain insight into the process

Enjoy the video and gain an understanding of this process.

About the Speaker – Carl Angotti

Carl Angotti, President of Angotti Product Development, has been designing hardware based products for over 30 years in Silicon Valley. Many of these have been with Startup companies.

The projects range from designing portions of large systems to simple circuit designs. Mostly, these involve products starting from an idea, and working with them to the point of introduction into volume production. He has managed the development process of circuits and systems to prove the feasibility of critical portions of the systems to the development of the entire product. His product experience ranges from commercial instrumentation projects to consumer products and medical devices. He works closely with other software, hardware, and mechanical engineers to complete product developments.

Mr. Angotti holds a BSEE from Carnegie-Mellon University, an MSEE from the University of Southern California, and an MBA from San Jose State University. He is a California Registered Professional Engineer.
